Pre-season friendly: Bishop’s Stortford 2 Leyton Orient 4

Scott Kashket bagged a brace at the ProKit Stadium to help Leyton Orient see off National League South outfit Bishop’s Stortford this afternoon.

The young striker continues to impress under head coach Ian Hendon and his latest display is another reminder of his talents.

Ollie Palmer and Jobi McAnuff were also on target for the O’s as they continued their recent promising form with a 4-2 victory in Hertfordshire against non-league opposition.

Hendon gave starting opportunities to Jack Parkinson and Zaine Francis-Angol again, the former, however, was in central midfield this time.

Alan Dunne captained the O’s and was partnered at the heart of the defence with Yann Songo’o – another player on trial.

Youngsters Sam Ling, Freddy Moncur and Kashket were given chances too while Blair Turgott and Palmer started again.

McAnuff, fresh from his Gold Cup heroics, played his first game for the club at the ProKit Stadium since returning from international duty.

In goal for Orient was Gary Woods, with Hendon giving the stopper a chance to show why he should be number one for the upcoming season over Alex Cisak.

O’s head coach watched the start of the game in the stands with Kevin Nugent ordering instructions from the dug out and the visitors went close in the seventh minute through Kashket.

Tom Lovelock, who started his career at Brisbane Road, was able to thwart the young forwards flicked shot after smart play by Francis-Angol.

Another old Orient player was in the thick of the action shortly afterwards as Billy Lobjoit went through one on one, but he could only fire wide.

Shortly afterwards and Hendon’s team took the lead with McAnuff making an instant impact on his return. He collected the ball from Kashket before firing low into the bottom corner to make it 1-0 with 13 minutes played.

The O’s head coach made his way to the dugout soon after and Stortford’s Lobjoit failed to hit the target again with another curled effort.

In the 34th minute, the away side were given an opportunity to extend their advantage when Kashket was fouled inside the area.

The young forward dusted himself down and dispatched the penalty with ease to make it 2-0 to Orient.

Five minutes later and Palmer made it three as he capitalised on a defensive error by the hosts before having his shot deflected over the helpless Lovelock.

It remained 3-0 at the break, but Stortford pulled one back in the 57th minute when former West Ham United forward Matthias Fanimo beat Woods in the O’s goal.

But Kashket was soon to get the three-goal advantage back for the visitors as he back-heeled into the corner after the hosts failed to clear a corner kick.

That strike was the 19-year-old’s fourth goal of pre-season as he continues to make a positive impression under Hendon.

Turgott went close for Orient afterwards before McAnuff was replaced by Sandro Semedo with 10 minutes remaining.

Stortford ended the match strongly and Fanimo popped up with his second of the afternoon at the ProKit Stadium late on, but it wasn’t enough to change the result of the game as O’s won 4-2.

Hendon’s side have now won their last four pre-season matches and the likes of Dunne, Turgott, Palmer and Kashket all got 90 minutes under their belt in Hertfordshire before the start of their League Two campaign next week.

Orient travel to Southend United tomorrow (Sunday) for their final friendly fixture of the summer before hosting Barnet at Brisbane Road next Saturday.

Leyton Orient: Woods, Ling, Songo’o, Dunne, Francis-Angol, Turgott, Moncur, Parkinson, McAnuff (Semedo 80), Palmer, Kashket.

Unused substitutes: Cisak, Clohessy, Shaw, Essam, Baudry, Cox, James, McCallum, Moore, Pritchard, Simpson.
