Midfielder Lloyd James ‘won’t be ready’ for clash at the Memorial Stadium

Leyton Orient number two Andy Hessenthaler revealed on Saturday that Lloyd James will be unavailable for today’s clash with Bristol Rovers.

Ian Hendon’s men make the trip to the Memorial Stadium to take on the Gas in a buoyant mood after beating Portsmouth last weekend.

The O’s came out on top in a thrilling encounter at Brisbane Road with James missing the match with an ankle injury.

It was hoped he would be okay for this afternoon’s fixture, but Hessenthaler revealed he is set to be unavailable again.

He said: “Lloyd had a fitness test this morning but his ankle was too sore so he won’t be ready for Monday.

“The good news for us is we were able to get Jack Payne back for the Portsmouth game which was amazing really. It was an impact injury – very sore but he was able to get through the match.”

Hendon won’t have captain Mathieu Baudry at his disposal, though, after the French defender was sent off against Pompey.

Baudry will miss the next three games, starting with today’s fixture with Bristol Rovers.

It means the O’s will have to change their defence again with Connor Essam potentially playing right-back and Cole Kpekawa partnering Jean-Yves M’voto in the centre of Orient’s back four.

Frazer Shaw may return at left-back, but Jay Simpson is a doubt after coming off with a calf problem against Portsmouth.

Although Sammy Moore isn’t available, Hessenthaler revealed the midfielder should be back for after the Stevenage match on January 2.

“He is getting closer Sammy, I think Stevenage is probably a bit too close for him, but you never know but he is coming along nicely,” said the Orient assistant boss.
