Steve Davis has to manage his squad as they prepare to play twice in three days
Leyton Orient head coach Steve Davis has several choices to make ahead of the visit of Eastleigh today with none bigger than who plays in the centre of midfield.
Craig Clay is yet to make his full debut for O’s, but has impressed off the bench on numerous occasions this season.
Alex Lawless and first-team captain Charlie Lee have started every match so far, yet the latter suffered a dead leg during the 2-0 win at Woking last Saturday.
It remains to be seen whether the injury will be enough to rule the ex-Stevenage midfielder out of today’s game.
Even if it doesn’t, Lee may have to settle for a place among the substitutes, especially with two matches in the space of three days.
One player not set to be involved against Eastleigh or at Maidenhead United on Monday is Christian Scales.
The left-back has moved to Bostik Premier side Harlow Town on a one-month loan and should make his debut for the Hawks this afternoon.
Davis’ focus will be on the players still at Brisbane Road and he is set to rotate his squad over the next few days.
But the big question is what game will he play what appears his first-choice starting XI? Against potential promotion rivals Eastleigh or new boys Maidenhead?
Speaking earlier this month, Davis revealed how he wouldn’t be setting his players any targets for the end of August.
He explained how the squad will know what they need to achieve from the first seven games of the campaign.
“The players will set their own targets. They don’t need me to tell them where they will be at the end of the month,” said Davis.
“We will just take it one game at a time and I think you can sometimes look beyond the next game and think too much.
“At the moment it is just a game at a time and let’s get the next one done and try to get the three points.”
