Army and Navy have completed their mission to earn promotion to the top flight of the Hackney and Leyton League

Army and Navy have completed their mission to earn promotion to the top flight of the Hackney and Leyton League as a three-year quest to reach the Premier Division reached a successful conclusion on Sunday.

The Division One side secured a 3-1 win over Gascoyne to spark joyous celebrations as a first-half double from Alan Eames and a Ronnie Flynn strike guaranteed Army's promotion.

Premier Division leaders Lapton are also set for celebrations as title rivals Clapton Rangers dropped points on Sunday, virtually guaranteeing the reigning champions a third successive crown.

Clapton had been forced to play a double-header against Three Compasses and despite recording a 5-0 rout in the opening game, Rangers were held to a 0-0 draw in the second match that leaves their title hopes hanging by a thread.

Black Meteors have climbed to third place in the Premier Division after a tight 3-2 win over Old King John's Head, courtesy of Enoch Boateng's double and a further strike from David Matthews.

Old King John's Hackney Gazette Cup final opponents Bancroft United recorded a 3-1 triumph over faltering Red Devils as Vincent Williams struck twice and prolific striker Justin Weatherman hit the target.

In Division One, John Bray, Andy Mataz and Andy Quayle were on target as Wounded Knee collected a 3-0 win over Midfield, while Mile End overcame FC Metwin 3-1 with goals from Jack Higgs, Abraham Mahmood and Ayo Ogunlaza.

Tottenham Phoenix bounced back from their Dickie Davies semi-final defeat by inflicting a 4-1 victory over Division Three rivals The Aberfeldy as Christian Smith, Jerome Anglin, Mesiah Udima and Menalick Richards hit the mark.

Division Four leaders AC Islington increased their advantage at the top of the division with a 5-2 defeat of Royal Oak.

Shoreditch Fire Penguins salvaged a point from an entertaining 1-1 draw with Baris Sports as Lee McRae hit a late equaliser.
