Sporting Bengal United overcame a two-goal deficit to win against 10-man Clapton at Mile End Stadium on Friday night.

After conceding two goals in the first 12 minutes it looked like being a miserable night ahead for Imrul Gazi’s men.

But a controversial red card to Clapton’s Jay Morris proved the turning point.

In the 70th minute, his 50/50 challenge on Steven Carvell saw Norris given an early bath, despite the referee seeming to be giving out a yellow card prior to changing his mind.

Clapton took the lead in the seventh minute as Jay Morris slipped through Eusebio De Silva who calmly finished past goalkeeper Ibrahim Ugradar.

And they doubled their advantage shortly after in the 12th minute as a Morris through ball reached Jeffrey Cobblah whose neat finish worsened Bengal’s chance to get back into the match.

Jay Knight halved the deficit four minutes after when receiving a flick-on bounced through from substitute Raul Gazi and tucked it home.

And Sporting Bengal equalised after a well-worked corner from Carvell as he played it short into Gazi, who quickly released Carvell whose drilled cross met Knight to tap in.

The home side took the lead shortly after Morris’ sending off when Knight’s header was flicked on to Carvell out wide and his whipped cross was met by substitute Joshua N-W Ngandu whose shot on the turn put his side ahead.

Their impressive comeback was cemented after a counter-attack started by Ashaan Siddik, who played through Carvell for a well-deserved goal as he slotted past Clapton keeper Joe Martin.

The win puts Sporting Bengal up to sixth place and leaves Clapton in 10th.

Sporting Bengal: Ibrahim Ugradar, Rokib Choudary, Declan Nche, Joshua Adeji, Kamarl Duncan, Chris Greenslade, Jack lamb, Ashaan Siddik, Jay Knight, Steven Carvell, David Vaughan.
