Joe Bruce scored a rare hat-trick of penalties as Barking booked their place in the quarter-finals of the London Senior Cup on Tuesday.
It was the only the second time in club history that a Blues player had netted a treble of spot-kicks, with Dave Hearne having managed the feat in an Essex Senior Cup tie against Rainham Town some 55 years ago, in March 1963.
Having lost 1-0 at home to Bostik North rivals Bowers & Pitsea on Saturday, Barking took the lead against Essex Senior League Hamlets at Mayesbrook Park on the quarter-hour mark when Bruce opened his account.
They had to wait until eight minutes into the second half to double their advantage with Bruce’s second penalty and quickly went 3-0 up before the hour as the centre-back completed his hat-trick.
Darelle Russell added the fourth wit 18 minutes remaining as Barking made it through to the last eight of the competition for the first time since 2007/6 when they beat Wealdstone to reach the semi-finals, before bowing out against Tooting & Mitcham.
Justin Gardner’s men will welcome National League South outfit Dulwich Hamlet this time around, at a date to be confirmed, but return to league action on Saturday with a home match against Grays Athletic.
AJ Ashanike’s Hamlets, meanwhile, travel to Harlow to face Enfield at the weekend.
Barking: Brown, McQueen, Peart (Ogunwamide 63), Edwards, Bruce, Cosson, Kamara, Seymour (Elsom 75), Russell, Cheema, Cohen (Mignot 66).
