Whitechapel based Syedpur Shaharpara celebrate winning the Jagannathpur UK Union Cup

Whitechapel-based Syedpur Shaharpara were celebrating lifting the Jagannathpur UK Union Cup after beating Asharkandi Eagles.

A tense final ended in a 0-0 draw, with both sides playing their seventh game of the day.

But then Asharkandi raced into a 2-0 lead, before Shanur Kamali’s heroics in goal helped his side draw level.

The shoot-out then went to sudden death and after Asharkandi missed, Luqman Kamali smashed home the winner.

“We feel great and it beats losing last year’s final! The feeling is wonderful and has brought the community together,” said 48-year-old captain Abdul Munim.

Chairman Bokul Hussain added: “Congratulations to Syedpur Shaharpara. The standard of play leaves us with a positive selection headache ahead of the 2017 Sylhet District Upazila Cup.”

Mirpur goalkeeper Makbul Hussain was named player of the tournament.
