Wide-man wants to see the team turn performances into points

"I think the team have to win, we have to take the points"

Mexican winger Pablo Barrera has challenged his West Ham team-mates to find that little bit extra to turn draws into wins.

The Hammers’ last three matches have ended in stalemate, although their performances at times have merited more then their return.

The facts are the club remain rooted to the bottom of the Premier League table, five points off safety with the gap between the Hammers and the rest increasing week on week.

Next up is a tough trip to Anfield, a venue the East End club have not won at in the league since 1963. Barrera however is not concerned by the Hammers’ record against Liverpool and more about helping his side pick up only their second league success of the campaign.

“I am excited, but it is a really difficult match. But I think the team have to win, we have to take the points,” he said.

“Of course the mentality of the team is not at the best right now because we are not winning, but I think the team are playing very well, we need that bit extra to score and win, and that is the main thing.”

Barrera’s own showings have improved of late as the Mexican attempts to get used to England both on and off the pitch.

“I have adjusted already. I have an apartment, a car, but the cold is the main problem,” he said.

“After each match I am getting used to it (the pace of English football). There are things players have to have such as good a physical condition. Match after match it is getting better for me.

“You can get a lot of space out wide, but sometimes it is difficult as well, because you don’t have much space. Sometimes you cannot put the ball towards the wings and you have to play the ball straight to the strikers, so it isn’t easy sometimes.

“I am enjoying the experience I am having in England . It’s the best league in the World and I am really enjoying being here, the team just have to keep working and I am confident we can make it better.”
