Life has not been great for new West Ham goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski in recent times.

Last season he was relegated with Swansea City and then he played just one game for Poland at the World Cup as they went out in the group stages.

His one game saw a clean sheet in a 1-0 win over Japan and by that time he was already at West Ham player.

On Saturday he had the first chance to wear the Hammers strip as he played 90 minutes at Ipswich Town and it looks like he has recovered from the perils of the last few months.

“As a footballer, you have to take everything that happens to you,” he said after the 2-1 win over the Championship side.

“Going down with Swansea was not the ideal way to leave them. It is not the best feeling to have, but when you are in the the toughest league in the world you have to cope with anything.”

The former Arsenal man must have been a little rusty at Portman Road, so how did he feel he coped?

“I think it went well, we won the game,” he smiled.

“Obviously for me it was the first game after a bit of a break and I think it was positive and I am really looking forward to the next game.”

Fabianski did let a goal in and also saw Ipswich hit the post, but what did he think of the defence in front of him?

“You can see it is a quality group and all the players put a lot of effort in. It wasn’t easy because we played just a few days ago,” he added.

“I think you can see that there is a lot of quality in the group and hopefully we will get better and we will be ready for the Premier League.”

The big question remains whether manager Manuel Pellegrini will start the Premier League season with 33-year-old Fabianski or 31-year-old Spanish stopper Adrian.

Opinion is certainly divided among fans who appreciate the loyalty of Adrian, who was messed about by the arrival of Joe Hart last season.

It seems likely that the Spaniard will have to try and win his place back again with the former Swansea City man likely to get the nod.

“Now I am here and I am very happy to be,” added the Poland international.

“I am very excited and I am just looking forward to the future that is in front of me.”

Whoever gets the nod, it seems that West Ham have two quality keepers to choose from. The task for the boss is trying to keep them both happy.
