West Ham United manager Manuel Pellegrini believes it could be a good time to play against Arsenal with both sides having failed to pick up any points from their opening two Premier League matches.

The Hammers head to the Emirates Stadium on Saturday to face a new-look Gunners side under Unai Emery and both sides will be desperate to relieve some pressure by getting their first points on the board.

“I prefer to play against a big team when you are in your best moment,” the 64-year-old said.

“Maybe they will be nervous, maybe they will be desperate to win their first game, so I cannot know the reaction of Arsenal’s players at the moment.

“It’s not normal that Arsenal start the season losing their first two games but for me the pressure is always winning or losing.

“Both teams cannot win for the moment so we’ll see which team will finish losing.”

The Chilean will come up against Emery, who he has already faced off against 12 times in his career winning half of those matches, and revealed he expects him to be successful at the north London outfit.

“He is a manager who has done well in Spain and in winning the UEFA Europa League and his teams always play good football, so I expect he will do the same at Arsenal,” added Pellegrini.

Three players who will be hoping to be in Pellegrini’s starting line-up will be former Gunners Lukasz Fabianski, Lucas Perez and Jack Wilshere but he revealed it will take 11 players to win the match after being asked about them being up for the occasion.

“Well you never know about that, but for me we must make it as a team, not because we have three players who played at Arsenal,” he said. “We need to improve as a team in defending, attacking and mentality, so a lot of things and against a big team like Arsenal is the only way to improve.”

One player who will miss out on the occassion is club captain Mark Noble who has been ruled out with a back injury and joins the likes of Andy Carroll, Manuel Lanzini and Winston Reid on the sidelines.

The boss then went on to admit his side still needs time to gel, adding: “It’s very difficult to say how long, when I say with new players, new manager you need time, I mean it because it’s true, but I also know football doesn’t give you too much time to do it.”
