The Hammers welcome The Red Devils to the London Stadium on Saturday for 12.30pm kick-off and the Scotsman says their 8-0 win against League Two side Macclesfield Town in mid-week should have them on a high.

“It would give anybody confidence, winning a game 8-0, it was important it was at home as well as you have to give a good account of yourselves,” the 31-year-old said.

“The Chelsea game was the first good one, the Wolves and Bournemouth games weren’t good enough but we got the result to get into the next round.”

The former Hull City man heaped praised on Jose Mourinho’s team and dubbed them a world class side despite all their issues on and off the pitch in recent weeks.

“They’re a great football team, what goes on with them is nothing to do with us, that’s there house, we focus on us and get ourselves ready for a tough game.

“Everybody knows Manchester United are a tough team, world class team, so we need to be at our very best if we want to get a result.”

The Scottish international wants to play but he insists he can only keep doing his job in hope that he gets picked by manager Manuel Pellegrini.

“All I can do is what I can and that’s try to play, it was a new position for me in there as a number ten (against Macclesfield), I was trying to get on the ball and make something happen.

“Get chances get assists and get goals, and that’s what I touched on at the beginning of the season that I wanted to do.

“I reckon I’ve done that so I’m happy, but it’s all about the team for me, just need to get back in recover and work hard to be ready for Manchester United again.”

Snodgrass also believes the manager has a real selection on his hands due to the strength and depth in the Hammers squad.

“The manager has got a problem as everybody wants to play games and that’s a good problem to have for the manager.

“Everybody is working hard in training, there is a lot of competition for places, and the manager has great strength and depth in a lot of areas.

“We need to be ready if we’re called upon, that’s why he is in the hot seat, and that’s why he is the main man.

“As a professional you need to be ready.”
