Fry poised for Gbenga clash

Light heavyweight Courtney Fry is aiming to return to winning ways on Friday when he makes his first ring appearance since losing to Tony Oakey in the Prizefighter tournament at York Hall in February.

Former Commonwealth Games gold medallist Fry, who enjoyed a sparkling amateur career at Repton, is due to face Ghana's Michael Gbenga in a 10-round clash at the Thistle Hotel, Bristol.

Fry will start as a clear favourite against the Ghanaian, who challenged Dean Francis for the Commonwealth title in 2007 but has lost half of his 10 pro contests.

Before losing to Oakey, Fry had suffered just one defeat in a stop-start pro career - a single-point loss against Commonwealth title winner Ovill McKenzie in 2005.
