Light heavyweight Courtney Fry is aiming to return to winning ways when he makes his first ring appearance since losing in February's Prizefighter tournament

Light heavyweight Courtney Fry is aiming to return to winning ways on Friday when he makes his first ring appearance since losing to Tony Oakey in the Prizefighter tournament at York Hall in February.

Former Commonwealth Games gold medallist Fry, who enjoyed a sparkling amateur career at Repton, is due to face Ghana's Michael Gbenga in a 10-round clash at the Thistle Hotel, Bristol.

Fry will start as a clear favourite against the Ghanaian, who challenged Dean Francis for the Commonwealth title in 2007 but has lost half of his 10 pro contests.

Before losing to Oakey, Fry had suffered just one defeat in a stop-start pro career - a single-point loss against Commonwealth title winner Ovill McKenzie in 2005.

Promoter Frank Maloney has confirmed another East London show on April 23 when The Troxy in Stepney features an English title top-liner.

That clash sees Ross Burkinshaw face Mike Robinson for the vacant English super-flyweight title.

Also due to appear on the show is promising East London-trained heavyweight Tom Dallas, who will be bidding for his fifth pro win against a selected rival.

Light middleweight Gary Woolcombe and flyweight Paul Edwards are also scheduled to appear on the Commercial Road show.
