Michael Grant failed to produce his Sunday best but the TKO Gym fighter did enough to take a one-point decision over classy French rival Christophe Sebire on the Hayemaker promotion at York Hall.
The six-round 58-57 verdict from
referee Bob Williams ensured that Grant maintained his unbeaten record by a single point - but his bruised features were proof he had been in a hard fight on Sunday.
Manager Johnny Eames later expressed his frustration that Grant did not reveal he had been troubled by a virus before the fight.

"I was not pleased when I found out on Sunday that Michael had been suffering from a chest condition in the days before the fight," the TKO Gym boss said.
"But you have to give him credit for the way he dug deep in the final round to make sure of the verdict against a good class opponent."

The 23-year-old Sebire, a winner of 16 out of 18 pro fights, looked set to edge the hard-fought contest until unbeaten Grant showed his determination to sneak a close verdict in the final round.
Fellow TKO fighter light-middleweight Pat McAleese punched out his latest win against Northampton's Vince Byron on the Hayemaker show.
McAleese slammed home powerful shots all through the four-round contest against a game but outgunned opponent.
It was the TKO gym fighter's fourth straight victory - all at York Hall.
