East London’s men edged past Bishops Stortford in their latest East League Division One outing at the Lee Valley Hockey & Tennis Centre on Saturday.

Andy Cumine cancelled out an early goal, but the visitors went 2-1 up early in the second half.

Guy Paul levelled for a second time, with Jonathan Ogle sealing a 3-2 win for the leaders with a drag flick.

James Wilson was named man of the match for a commanding performance and East travel to Broxbourne this weekend.

The seconds lost 1-0 to Cambridge, with Jelmer Blok their man of the match, but Nick Ivory and Phil Knight both netted as the thirds beat Brentwood seconds 2-1 and Freddy Clapson hit a hat-trick as the fourths thrashed Southend seconds 8-1.

Ali Wood added a brace, with Jack Boniface, Ryan Dunn and David Siddall also on target, while Tom Parrott and Wesley Manta netted trebles as the sevenths romped to a 9-2 win over Saffron Walden sixths.

Jamie Rosser’s goal proved in vain as the sixth team lost 2-1 to Old Loughts Academy, with Muhammad Noman on target as the eighths went down 4-2 against Brentwood Academy.

East London’s women lost 1-0 to East one South rivals Broxbourne, with Karen Heaney named player of the match ahead of Saturday’s home match with Burnt Ash.

But Kirsty McLeod’s brace saw the thirds to a 2-0 win over County and the fifths baat Havering thirds 1-0.

Lucy Bohoslawec was on target as the seconds drew 1-1 with Saffron Walden, with Perdi Blinkhorn and Nicky Sevel sharing player of the match honours.

And Bex Smart (2) and Tara Annison netted as the fourths lost 4-3 to Havering seconds, while Lizzie Burch and Emilie O’Brien scored in 2-1 losses for the sixths and eighths against Crostyx thirds and Chelmsford sevenths, respectively.

Clare O’Malley was named player of the match for the sixth team after some great defending, while Lara Brown and Christine Peters shared top billing for the eighths, who saw a late effort from the top of the D ruled out as it was not clear if the ball was inside the line or not.
