London Lions have confirmed that young Londoner Jonathan James will return for the new season.

James, one of the youngest players in the team, stands out for his pace and ability to stand up to the opposition.

Known for his offensive style, James started the season on a high at the Essex Classic, where he was the top scorer with 16 points and 5 assists on the floor.

A graduate from the Lions Academy at Hackney Community College, James spent a season in Prep school in the United States before joining the Lions last September.

He is now studying at the University of East London (UEL) and is part of their basketball programme jointly run by Lions and UEL.

Lions’ boss Vince Macaulay said: “Jonathan is one of our up and coming stars. He has championship pedigree with huge potential.

“It’s fantastic that he is not only rejoining the team but also continuing his education at the UEL. He is a great role model for young players currently playing at junior level.”

James added: “I am happy to have signed for my second season with the Lions. I have big plans and achievements to meet for the team and I think we have a strong alliance this year. We are ready to go all the way!”

James’ signing means the Lions return nine players from last season, alongside new guys Jordan Spencer, Ladarius Tabb and Kervin Bristol.

The BBL season tips off at the Copper Box on September 21 when the Glasgow Rocks are the visitors.

London Lions will look to overturn a two-point deficit when they host Newcastle in the second leg of their BBL Cup semi-final at the Copper Box Arena on Sunday.
