Veras Academy members got among the medals at the British Karate Federation International in Edinburgh recently.

Jack Gentili Walsh and Isaac Gibson combined well to win silver in the pairs kata for seven to 10-year-olds.

And Gibson then joined younger brother Dylan to add bronze in the pairs kumite for seven to nine-year-olds.

Harry Elves was next on stage and, after an impressive performance, secured gold in the disability kata for able-bodied.

The second day of competition saw Donna Blake claim bronze in female kata and Jaydon Sullivan give an entertaining display to win bronze in the under-21 kumite under-75kg category.

Meanwhile, sensei Raphael Veras competed at the BJJ Copenhagen International Open in Denmark and, despite spending a week on crutches with a knee injury, managed to come home with a superb silver medal.

“I cannot stop the fighter in me!” said Veras.
