London Youth Games takes to the water in June

Nearly 1500 youngsters are set to take to the water in June to particpate in the Thames Water London Youth Games Regatta.

The event takes place across three dates with competitions in canoeing, rowing and sailing disciplines.

The first races will be in the Kayak sprint, kayak slalom and rowing which takes place at London Regatta Centre in the Docklands on June 6.

Less than two weeks later, the regatta reaches its conclusion at the King George V Reservoir in Chingford with a two-day sailing competition from June 20-21.

Since 2008 the event has seen a 500% increase in participants and Thames Water CEO Martin Baggs is delighted with the recent growth in the regatta.

““We are delighted with the progress the Thames Water London Youth Games Regatta has made in recent years,” said Baggs.

“The competition is now firmly established as an accessible and affordable opportunity for thousands of youngsters from right across all of London’s boroughs to become involved in competitive water sport.

“The Thames Water Regatta provides a year-round focus for young people to train towards, where they can meet their own personal goals, whilst at the same time helping London to create more active, healthier communities.

“We look forward to more healthy competition in kayaking, sailing and rowing at this year’s events in June.”
