Adam Ellis is hoping for way more success this time round after returning to the Lakeside Hammers after two seasons away.

The 22-year-old spent three seasons with the Purfleet-based club before leaving for pastures new and has spent time with Poole Pirates, Eastbourne Eagles and Swindon Robins in the past two years.

The up and coming British rider is now confident he has improved as a rider and is hoping for more success at the Arena Essex Raceway.

“I was kind of stuck in a rut a little bit, I couldn’t really get going and I think I needed the time away to just try and improve as a rider,” Ellis said.

“Now I feel more comfortable on the smaller tracks and I’m sure it will be better than last time.”

The French-born racer is delighted to be back and is keen to get the season fully underway.

“It’s good to be back, I was looking forward to coming back here after spending a couple of years away.

“It was good to have the chance to come back in the Championship, we’ve got a good team and hopefully we can get out on the track and do the business.”

Ellis finished runner-up on the opening night of the season in the Lakeside Hammers RICO Spring Classic event just behind Australian World Cup star Nick Morris.

He then went on to score 10+2 in the club’s first meeting against Peterborough Panthers when they narrowly lost 46-44.

The former Ipswich Witches rider’s performance to kick start the season are even more remarkable as he’s been racing an unproven Godden engine.

“Every year you want to improve and that’s the goal this year and it’s started off pretty steady so far but there is still a long season to go.”

Ellis has high hopes for the team this year and is confident in the squad they’ve got.

“Same as every year, as long as we reach the play-offs and then just see how it goes from there.

“As soon as we get to the play-offs it starts over again.

“We’ve got a solid team and a good bunch of riders from one to seven so hopefully we’ll be up there.”
