Eastbourne 51 Lakeside Hammers 39 (93-87 on aggregate)

Lakeside Hammers were edged out by fierce rivals in the Lee Richardson Memorial Trophy last night.

Hammers had raced to a 48-42 win on home shale early on Good Friday, thanks to maximums from Ben Morley and Zach Wajtknecht.

And the same duo played leading roles in the return meeting on the south coast, scoring 14 points apiece for the visitors.

Alfie Bowtell claimed his first win in a Hammers race jacket, but it could not prevent Eastbourne overcoming the six-point deficit and going on to lift the silverware, presented in memory of the late Eagles and Hammers rider Richardson, who died almost five years ago after a racing accident in Poland.

Hammers are back on the road on Bank Holiday Monday when they travel to Kent for the first leg of their Tunnel Trophy challenge match.

The return meeting is at Purfleet Raceway on Friday April 21 (8pm), ahead of the new National League campaign getting underway in May.

Scorers, Eastbourne: Tom Brennan 10+1, Georgie Wood 9, Connor Coles 8+2, Mark Baseby 7, Charley Powell 6+3, Matt Bates 6+1, Kelsey Dugard 5+2.

Hammers: Zach Wajtknecht 14, Ben Morley 12+2, Alfie Bowtell 7, George Hunter 2+1, David Mason 2+1, Nick Laurence 2, Ryan MacDonald 0.
