Lee Valley Lions coach George Alley reflects on his team’s awards evening.
The coach spoke about presenting three different awards, players’ player, coach’s player and most improved player at a team get together on Saturday.
The club’s top-point scorer and the eighth all-time scorer in the team’s history, Nick Alley, bagged the players’ player award.
“It goes without saying what his points have done for us, but Nick worked very hard to keep the team together last season and over the summer before I joined,” George said.
“He is one of the main reasons the players wanted to come back and play for us.”
The most improved award went to goalie James Andrew on his debut season, who managed an 88.74 save percentage in all competitions, following a 10 year break from the game and a brief stint with University of London Dragons.
“James made huge strides throughout the season, proving himself to be one of the best and most consistent goalies in the league,” he said.
“It took him a few games to adjust to the league but once he settled he was fantastic for us.”
While, the former London Raiders goalie George Alley, couldn’t decide on his award and gave it to two members of his team Simon Jones and Simon Geldart.
“Simon’s commitment to the team is second to none, he’s usually first to the rink for training and games and made a huge effort with his fitness to be better for the team this season,” he added.
“I’m glad this has shown in his points tally and I’m looking forward to seeing even more improvement from Simon next year.”
Before adding: “An outstanding leader, Geldart has been a rock for the side throughout the year.
“On and off the ice he’s gone above and beyond for his team mates.
“His contribution had to be recognised with Simon Jones as they have both set a great example for everyone involved in the club.”
The coach is now looking to recruit his team for the upcoming NIHL 2 season and signing announcements are expected throughout the summer.
