Lee Valley Lions coach George Alley wants his side to be competitive throughout the season.

The Lions kick-start their season with a double header this weekend with a trip to face rivals Haringey Huskies on Saturday and they host newboys Bracknell Hornets on Sunday.

“I want us to be competitive with every team we face,” Alley said.

“This will probably be the most challenging season the Lions have faced since reforming.

“I think come March there will be a split in teams challenging for the league title and promotion, those on the fringes of the playoffs and those at the bottom.”

The coach admits pre-season has been tough at times with Lee Valley ice rink being closed for refurbishment throughout the summer and having to use Sobell Leisure Centre.

“Using Sobell has been a challenge given its size and location, but it was a good way to work on other parts of our game, particularly play in close quarters.

“Being an amateur side you will always have disruptions to your plans with players going on holiday and having real lives away from the sport.”
