Mile End Stadium club visit Hullbridge Sports to play first match in three weeks

Tower Hamlets boss Ade Abayomi wants his players to enjoy their final Essex Senior League match of the campaign on Saturday.

The Mile End Stadium club visit Hullbridge Sports to finally conclude their season after the clash was previously postponed due to a waterlogged pitch on April 16.

It means Hamlets have not played since losing 2-1 to Enfield nearly three weeks ago, but during that time their spot in the division for next year has been confirmed.

Newham have been relegated from the league and it means Hamlets can play out their final game with no pressure. Abayomi said: “Now is a relaxing time, the season is nearly over and we only have one more match to play.

“We are looking forward to coming up against Hullbridge and should be able to go out there and enjoy it now we know we can’t finish in the bottom three.

“I definitely want to win our last game, even if we can only go up one place in the league. If we get a victory we will go ahead of Southend Manor, but they also play on Saturday and if they win, we’ll stay 17th.”

Hamlets have achieved plenty of highs this season, but most of them occurred in the first part of the campaign.

Abayomi’s youngsters defeated title challenging Basildon United on August 10 and also smashed Wivenhoe Town 5-1 in the FA Cup during the same month.

They registered a league success at Stansted in November and beat Clapton a few weeks later, a fine feat considering those two teams will now contest the Gordon Brasted Memorial Trophy final on Saturday.

It has definitely been a year to remember for the Mile End club in Abayomi’s first season in charge and a recent high was a 2-0 win over London Bari at the start of this month.

He added: “It has been an experience and now we know what to expect for next season. That is the most important thing to take this year. We know all about the opposition and how they’ll play and what style they are likely to use.

“I’m looking forward to pre-season already and working out how we can combat the problems we faced during this campaign.

“Hopefully, because there is no pressure of battling relegation, we can relax and play the football we know we’re capable of at Hullbridge this weekend.”
