The boss reflects on last weekend’s defeat and what his players need to do better in the future

Tower Hamlets manager Ade Abayomi wasn’t disappointed with the performance his young team delivered against rivals Sporting Bengal United on Saturday in the Essex Senior League, but with certain aspects of their play.

The Mile End Stadium clash ended with Anwar Uddin’s side celebrating a 3-1 victory after Carlos Aoldirve’s goal alongside Yacine Teladjati’s brace cancelled out Omar Rowe’s equaliser for the hosts.

Abayomi felt his players failed to remain patient and should have been more disciplined with the ball.

He did, however, admit they might have picked up a point from the encounter had Teladjati not scored two brilliant goals to give Bengal the victory.

“The performance against Sporting Bengal wasn’t bad, the game itself was a very tough match for the boys,” said Abayomi.

“Sporting Bengal put men behind the ball and we were not patient enough to break them down. The key was the two goals they scored.

“It was not a bad performance and on another day without those two really good goals it could have been different, but if you have seen the strikes by the lad they were brilliant.”

Abayomi hopes his young team will learn from Saturday’s clash and remain patient in the future. That could be required this weekend when they visit Cockfosters for a preliminary round FA Cup tie.

If Towers Hamlets win they could pocket £1,925, but they need to learn from last weekend’s league loss against their rivals first.

“First half I told the players we need to maintain our discipline, don’t get involved in the banter and everything else that goes on,” added Abayomi.

“I hope that they learned from Saturday’s match because when we kicked off Sporting knew the way we played and had people behind the ball.

“We didn’t apply our patience in the first half and every time we got the ball in midfield we would lose it, but it was another step in the right direction and a different game this week.

“I am not disappointed with our performance, just disappointed we couldn’t keep our discipline and stay patient with the ball.”
