Mile End Stadium outfit drew 1-1 with Burnham Ramblers on Saturday and now face Wadham Lodge in the cup on Wednesday

Tower Hamlets manager Ade Abayomi was pleased his side managed to end their poor run at the weekend after drawing 1-1 at Burnham Ramblers in the Essex Senior League.

Darren Phillips gave the hosts a first half lead, but Nasser Bello fired in the equaliser 15 minutes from time to earn the away team a point.

It halted Hamlets five-match losing run in all competitions and boosts their confidence ahead of hosting Wadham Lodge in the League Challenge Cup on Wednesday.

The Mile End Stadium outfit are content with how things are going with their young side this season.

“It was one of those games we could have won but I am glad to have put an end to the losing cycle we’ve been on for a while,” said Abayomi.

“We definitely played well enough to earn a point against Burnham. We came under some pressure, but I would say 1-1 was a fair result in the end.

“I think when you are not winning it creates discontent. Put into context we are nearly there. We have to keep our heads up and keep going.

“This season is just about learning to play in the league and we have not looked out of place and like we don’t belong. Except for the game against FC Romania (7-1), we have been giving the big boys a good run for their money.”

Abayomi insists the expectation for his youngsters is to finish around mid table, but he wants them to believe more in themselves.

Wadham Lodge up next will provide a stiff test, but Tower Hamlets should be confident.

The two teams played out a 2-2 draw on September 7 and another entertaining clash can be expected tomorrow.

“We drew with them last time and they are doing well,” added the Tower Hamlets boss. If I look at their team then they are a year or two older than my boys. We’re looking forward to it and going to give it our best shot.

“I am trying to make the squad believe in themselves, that’s my job as manager. The target is to be mid table or above so we need to put a couple of runs together.

“But we have put the losing run to an end. We do not deserve to be where we are and we can still fight for mid table. I am realistic and I know we are not far away.”
