Latest from the Essex Senior League

Sporting Bengal United battled well at Hullbridge Sports, but couldn’t find the net and were beaten in the Essex Senior League.

The home side started brightly and yet it took them until the 37th minute to break the deadlock when Luke Hornsley scored.

Anwar Uddin’s men managed to hold out until half time, however, before coming back strong in the second half.

Bengal couldn’t make the most of their possession, though, and conceded again two minutes from time when Hornsley completed his brace.

The east Londoners will hope to bounce back on Saturday when they host Clapton at the Mile End Stadium.

Basement boys Newham picked up a point in their battle to move off the bottom of the table.

They entertained fellow strugglers Waltham Forest at Chadfields and both teams were desperate to achieve some success.

It was goalless at half time, though, and that was how it finished despite the visitors hitting the crossbar twice.

Shamrez Darr’s men have moved onto 20 points now and entertain local rivals Tower Hamlets this weekend.

London Bari suffered a 6-1 thrashing to high-flying Basildon United despite only conceding twice before the break.

Brad Warner opened the scoring for the Bees with 17 minutes gone before Rob Clark made it two from the penalty spot.

It stayed that way until half time, but the hosts upped their tempo after the restart and made it 3-0 in the 55th minute.

Shomari Barnwell converted Warner’s cross before Luka Frankis made it four with 22 minutes remaining.

Anton Stephenson made it 5-0 shortly afterwards before the visitors pulled one back from the penalty spot.

But Stephenson and Basildon had the final say as he scored again to make it 6-1 and send Bari back to east London with no reward.

Chris Davis’ men host Stansted at the Old Spotted Dog on Saturday looking to bounce back from this thrashing.
