Sporting Bengal United manager Imrul Gazi is keen to get back underway in the Essex Senior League this weekend.

Bengal will welcome Enfield to the Mile End Stadium on Saturday after having not played a league fixture since August, 18, when they drew 4-4 with Saffron Walden Town.

Gazi’s side have played a few cup games in the meantime including forcing a replay with Bostik North side Brentwood Town before eventually crashing out of the competition.

But they’re now keen to return to league action and get their first win on the board after drawing their first two matches.

“We want to get back to the bread and butter more than anything else and hopefully get a win on the table,” Gazi said.

“We’ve got a settled team for the last two seasons now so from my perspective I expect them to go into games and challenge most teams.

“It’s important now for us to push on and see if we can better what we did last year.”

The boss did reveal they were due to have another blank weekend but managed to rearrange a fixture against Matt Hanning’s side.

“We were due to play Takeley Saturday but because they’ve got a FA Cup match we were without a fixture but luckily I noticed that Enfield didn’t have a game either.

“They would have had two weeks off as well so fortunately between ourselves we sorted it out and spoke to the league to get a game on for Saturday.”

Gazi is expecting a tough challenge and praised how Enfield finished in such fine form last season.

“I know that he has kept most of his team from last year and they’ve had a decent start, but it’s hard to say at this stage in the season, maybe give it 10 games into it.

“I’m not going to take anything for granted it’s early on in the season and I think a lot of managers are still trying to figure out what’s best for them.

“Enfield will be no different but I expect them to be strong as they finished last season amazingly well.

“In terms of form I think they were one of the best teams in the league in the last three months of the season.

“I’m expecting a real tough game.”

Bengal will be without captain Freddie Tandon and Anthony Bruce-Murray for the clash as they’re both sidelined through injuries.
