Essex Senior League: Stansted 2 Sporting Bengal 1

Sporting Bengal suffered a second defeat against Stansted in the space of two weeks at Hargrave Park last night.

Anwar Uddin’s men had fallen to a 2-1 defeat in the Gordon Brasted Memorial Trophy earlier in the month, when Terlochan Singh’s goal was cancelled out by late efforts from Gary Rowntree and Thomas Larkin.

And their return trip in the league ended in similar fashion, as the Airportmen banked the points.

Beaten 4-0 at Barking at the weekend, the visitors travelled with only 13 players, with boss Uddin one of the two substitutes alongside debutant Rob Crane.

And they fell behind in the first half as Tom Hollamby put Stansted in front.

Sam Ashford doubled the home side’s advantage after the restart and it proved decisive as Sporting hit back through Teo Borozam.

With only one win in their last 13 league and cup matches, Sporting will hope for better when they welcome east London rivals Newham to the Mile End Stadium for a derby meeting on Saturday.

Sporting: Lockyer, Kuhie, Ngulube, Borozam, Meikle, Khan, Singh, Hussain, Noubissie, Rivera, Roberts. Subs: Crane, Uddin.

*London Bari bowed out of the London Senior Cup with a 1-0 defeat in the quarter-finals at Dulwich Hamlet.

But Chris Davis’s men put up a brave fight against their Ryman Premier Division rivals in front of a crowd at 223 at Dulwich’s Champion Hill, before succumbing to a wonder goal from Jack Dixon.

Kevin James hit a post for Dulwich after only six minutes, but Bari saw a rare attack thwarted by Albert Jarrett’s fine tackle.

Rhyl Murrell-Williamson’s weak far post header was easily saved by the Bari keeper, before pulling the ball back from the right for Dixon to score with a half volley that went in off the underside of the crossbar.

Jordan Clarke was denied by a good save just before half time and fired just wide on 63 minutes.

Bari caused the hosts a few anxious moments late on, but Dulwich held on to secure their place in the last four.

Having seen their Essex Senior League trip to Takeley fall victim to a waterlogged pitch last weekend, Bari are set to host Clapton at the Old Spotted Dog on Saturday.
