Not many people saw Essex Senior League’s bottom club Sporting Bengal United holding in-form Bowers & Pitsea last weekend, but despite that Mamun Chowdhury was disappointed his team didn’t pick up all three points.
Bowers results leading up to Saturday’s clash at Mile End Stadium read 5-0, 7-0, 6-0, 4-0 and 4-0 in favour of the Len Salmon outfit.
Therefore most punters wouldn’t have foreseen anything less than a victory for the away team.
But Bengal had difference ideas and in the end they felt they deserved to triumph.

Chowdhury said: “Bowers won 5-1 yesterday at Basildon so we are proud of the way we defended, but disappointed we didn’t take our chances.
“The 5-1 win against Stansted on March 21 was result of the season or actually when we beat FC Romania 4-1 in the Gordon Brasted Memorial Trophy on September 17.

“Romania were flying high so that has got to be the best result of the season because they were top of the table at that point, but getting a point against Bowers is a fantastic achievement.”
Bengal are currently bottom of the table with 16 points from 36 league matches.

They have picked up half of those points since March 21 – winning two, drawing two and losing just one of their last five games.
But what has been the difference? The Mile End Stadium manager insists it is the return of “talisman” Carlos Castano.
“He had gone back to Columbia,” revealed Chowdhury. “He got us to the cup final last season, but then went back to Columbia for a year.
“Last season he scored 25 goals for us, which is a club record.
“Naturally when you have your talisman back it lifts the other boys and even me because it is nice to see someone scoring goals. He is staying here for a while now, a couple of years, so that is good for us.”
Bengal have two more matches left this season before their campaign comes to a close. They travel to Eton Manor tomorrow (Wednesday) and finish their league season at Sawbridgeworth Town on Saturday.
Chowdhury is looking to continue their momentum and end with two more wins, he added: “We definitely want to continue this form.
“When we had four matches remaining I said to the players we need to get nine points.
“I didn’t expect anything against Bowers, I said to them whatever we get is a bonus. But we come in at half time thinking we could be winning.
“After that draw we have four points, including the victory we achieved against Hullbridge, so now we are targeting two wins from our final two matches.”
