Essex Senior League rivals suffer losses

Redbridge 5 Tower Hamlets 2

Tower Hamlets saw their winless streak extend to six matches after going down against Motormen in the Essex Senior League at Oakside.

Motormen had lost 4-2 at Southend Manor in midweek, their fourth successive league loss, while Hamlets had not played for 10 days, since their 3-2 loss at Eton Manor.

And the home side took the lead after only seven minutes through Jay Knight, before Sean Kettle doubled their advantage on 24 minutes.

David Sangolo made it 3-0 on the half-hour mark, but Kaman Asidio hit back for Hamlets six minutes before half-time, only for Oscar Williams to restore Redbridge’s three-goal cushion just four minutes into the second half.

Kerfala Korouma missed a penalty for the visitors, but O’Neal Rowe netted their second on 86 minutes, only for Jacob Dingli to complete Redbridge’s nap hand with two minutes remaining.

Tower Hamlets will look to bounce back from their seventh defeat in 10 league outings when they host basement boys Sporting Bengal in the Mile End derby on Monday night.

Ade Abayomi’s men will be looking to complete a double over their rivals, having won 2-1 when the sides met on August Bank Holiday Monday thanks to Rowe’s injury-time strike.

Meanwhile, Redbridge visit neighbours Ilford in another derby clash on Wednesday, looking for revenge after a 4-3 home defeat against the Foxes recently.

Redbridge: Mernagh, Roult, Carter, Odutola, Good, Kettle, Gent, Gordon, Knight, Hunt, Sangolo. Subs: Dingli, Mehmet, McCann, Opok, Williams.

Tower Hamlets: Biscoe, Sumithran, Bambo, Abayomi, Oreniake, Rowe, Asidio, Masco, Ramos, Wasiu, Ibrahima. Subs: Korouma, Joao, Sheymz, Akinlabi, Gabsi.

Sporting Bengal 1 Stansted 3

Sporting Bengal slipped to the bottom of the table with their fifth defeat in seven outings this season.

Imrul Gazi’s men have enjoyed FA Cup and FA Vase success this term, and host Southall in the first round of the latter on October 22, but their league form has suffered, although they have games in hand on all their rivals towards the bottom of the table.

They had slipped to a 1-0 loss at Waltham Forest on Wednesday, but took the lead back on their own turf after only 12 minutes through Zubair Ahmed.

The home side’s joy was shortlived, though, as Stansted levelled through Abdeen Abdul a minute later and then hit a post.

Both sides had chances to take the lead, with the Sporting keeper producing a good save to keep out a Stansted effort and the rebound put wide.

But Stansted went 2-1 up with a Matt Gill header from a corner on 69 minutes and sealed the points with a third from Luke Meadwright in the last minute.

There was better news for Sporting Bengal at the UK Asian Championships in Scotland, though, as they beat Glasgow Afghan United 3-2 in their opening match with goals from Masum Ahmed, Oscar and Rokun Choudhury at Celtic Park.

They were due to play Halifax in their next group match.
