FC Leytonstone were made to pay for a poor first half showing in their latest East London Barking & Dagenham Sunday League.

Stoke Newington visited Munuf Abrham’s team and were winning 3-1 at half time despite Zulqi Khan’s effort.

The Lemons looked out of the contest at this point after several schoolboy errors, but fought back.

Arshad Coowar and Steven Ellery were among the players to be introduced at the break and the changes worked.

Bradley Williams reduced the deficit with a stunning free kick from outside the box before Leytonstone soon equalised.

Coowar produced a stunner from 30-yards to level the scores at 3-3, although disaster was soon to strike.

More poor defending by the Lemons when they went in search of a winner resulted in Newington taking the lead again.

With time running out Ellery produced a bit of magic from a tight angle to make it 4-4 before Khan’s cross was just inches away from Coowar.

It was a case of two points dropped despite coming back from 3-1 down having beaten Reama 12-2 the previous weekend.

Abrham said: “The players have to take criticism and responsibility for their poor first half display.”

There was better news for Leytonstone’s two under-14 teams playing in the Hackney Marshes Saturday Youth Red League and Blue League respectively.

Zindine Goua produced a captain’s display for the Lemons in the Youth Red League against their Eastside counterparts.

Goua scored four goals to help inspire a 9-4 victory with Darnelle Abraham hitting a brace.

Ahmed Mohamed and Rui Pedro Casquinha were also on target to give the Lemons another confidence boost.

Leytonstone’s other under-14s side produced an even better result in the Youth Blue League last weekend.

They defeated Haggerston Park 15-0 with Jamal Burgess scoring four times and Mahi Syed also hitting the back of the net on four occasions.

Essa Acha claimed a hat-trick while Amir Shariff, Fayaz Patel and Adnan Patel were on target once each.

Lemons coaches Sayeed Acha and Zak Patel were delighted with the display of the buoyant youngsters.

“I’m really happy with the performance. The boys attacked and defended like a team,” said Acha.

“We were comfortable against a side that likes to press but more importantly scoring 15 goals and keeping a clean sheet should send shockwaves to the rest of the clubs in the league.”
