Ebbsfleet boss McMahon praises dominant performance against Leyton Orient

Ebbsfleet United manager Daryl McMahon feels his side dominated his former club Leyton Orient that he labelled National League title favourites.
A late stoppage time goal from substitute Corey Whitely nabbed a point and cancelled out James Brophy’s goal early on at Breyer Group Stadium.
Although he did admit it sometimes takes time for a squad to get going but he is confident his side will also be up there challenging come the end of the season.
“It takes time, this is the start of the season, some teams get off a flyer and some teams start slowly,” McMahon said.
“Anybody here watching us play must have gone away and thought we’ll be up the top end of the table come the end of the season.

“We’ve come here against the bigger team in the division and a team that will be fancied to win the title and we’ve totally dominated the match.”
The former O’s midfielder also feels Justin Edinburgh’s side did not really threaten his men and only had success on the counter attack.

“We dominated the game from start to finish, nobody can say that, they had a couple of counter attacks which every team will have.
“In terms of dominating the game of football it was us.”
The manager was full of praise for his entire squad and gave a special mention to the likes of Jack Powell, Sean Shields, Nathan Ashmore and Darren McQueen who has returned to the line-up after being sidelined for 10 months.
“I thought he (Darren McQueen) was excellent to be honest, he has been excellent in training, he is a terrific player, he’s quick, and I thought he was terrific.
“If I’m being honest I wasn’t intending of playing him, but he was so good in training that I thought we have to unleash him and let him go.
“We have to manage him and ask him to walk before he can run.
“I thought Jack Powell was absolutely outstanding, Shieldsy again in that wing-back role was great, Asher made a couple of saves late on and the players were all outstanding.”
He also believes midfielder Ebou Adams was mature and put in a solid performance against his former club despite the constant abuse from the home fans.
“Ebou was very mature and I thought he did magnificent,” McMahon said.
“We took him off as we needed to get a goal, and I thought Powell and (Andy) Drury were dominating the middle of the pitch and I felt Corey Whitely would bring something a little bit different.”
