Mile End Stadium club pushed Hertfordshire club last time out and are seeking a positive result this weekend

Sporting Bengal United boss Imrul Gazi believes his team can achieve a positive result against high-flying FC Romania in the Essex Senior League this weekend.

The Mile End Stadium outfit have played three of the best teams in the division this month and pushed them all the way before falling short.

Bengal lost 3-2 at Sawbridgeworth Town on February 4, before going down by the same scoreline at FC Romania last Wednesday.

League leaders Barking defeated the east Londoners 5-3 on Saturday, but Gazi believes his team are getting closer to achieving a good result against one of the top teams.

He said: “I’m hoping we will be stronger on Saturday than we were for the previous match with FC Romania.

“I was short of a few players that would have made a difference that night, so we will see what happens this time around, especially with it at Mile End.

“To be honest I’m quietly confident we can give them a better game than before and maybe we can get a positive result.

“We have had some decent matches with them in the past at Mile End, so hopefully Saturday is another good one for us.”

Bengal travel to Barkingside on Monday for their last game of the month and February has proved to be a busy time for the east Londoners.

They were set to visit struggling Haringey & Waltham on Wednesday night, but the game was postponed due to “stadium issues”.

Codey Cameron and Steve Carvell scored at Theobalds Lane last week, but Gazi’s team suffered a 3-2 defeat against FC Romania.

The pair were on target again on Saturday when leaders Barking visited Mile End Stadium and Oscar Almeida Mendes also netted for Bengal.

Gazi’s team lost out to the title favourites in an eight-goal thriller, but he still doesn’t think they are the best side in the division.

He added: “I can’t understand how FC Romania are still in the league because their movement is simply amazing, but I was speaking to their manager and he was saying a lot of the squad go back to Romania in the summer and again at Christmas.

“I think that’s when problems occur because they don’t have the quality to replace them, but I have nothing but respect for FC Romania and they were really hospitable to us and made us feel welcome, so I’m looking forward to Saturday.”
