Sporting Bengal hit Burnham Ramblers for six to make it back-to-back wins and move seven points clear of the relegation zone.

Buoyed by their 2-1 success at Ilford on Saturday, they gave 17-year-old Kai Maynardhis first senior start at centre-back, with manager Imrul Gazi stepping in as emergency goalkeeper with their regular custodian running late.

The home side took the lead on 12 minutes when Bobby Redwood beat visiting keeper Josh Strizovic to the ball and slotted home.

It was 2-0 just two minutes later when an Ashaan Siddik cross looped in off a defender and the match was over as a contest before the break as Codey Cameron fired home at the far post.

The second half was barely a minute old when Bengal grabbed their fourth, as Steve Carvell took a touch and smashed home.

Bradley Morgan hit back for Burnham, firing home from 25 yards, but it was little consolation as Bengal restored their four-goal cushion when Cameron ran on to pass and produced a brilliant finish past Strizovic.

The home side added a sixth when Eaia Embalo’s shot was blocked and Nathan Ackie was on hand to convert the rebound and complete their best win of the season.

Gazi tweeted: “So PROUD of the lads! Well worth of our 6-1 win tonight. The attitude & desire is so evident. You get what you put in & that’s all I can ask.

“We are a TEAM & it’s showing in the last two results. What a diff 2 wins can make.”

Bengal are due to visit Hullbridge on Saturday, with a Challenge Cup tie at Sawbridgeworth to follow next Tuesday.
