Haringey & Waltham 2 Sporting Bengal 5

Sporting Bengal produced a five-star second-half performance to beat Essex Senior League rivals Haringey at the Terrence McMillan Stadium last night.

Imrul Gazi’s Mile End-based club made the short trip across east London on the back of an excellent 3-1 win at Barkingside on Monday to face the strugglers, but were soon brought back down to earth as they conceded twice in the first half.

Bengal turned the match on its head after the restart, though, as Oscar Almeidia Mendes scored twice to manitain his fantastic form in front of goal and Yaya Embalo also struck.

Steve Carvell also got on the scoresheet as he fired a superb long-range shot home, with Lewis Francis completing the nap hand.

A fifth win in seven matches allowed Bengal to climb two places in the table to 17th, while defeat in their last match of the campaign confirms Haringey will finish bottom.

Gazi’s men will play their fourth match in a week when they travel to Mayesbroko Park to take on West Essex on Saturday.

Neighbours Tower Hamlets, meanwhile, welcome London Bari to Mile End for a local derby after taking just one point from their last 10 league matches and are also set to host Eton Manor on Monday.
