The nightmarish prospect of having to play three or more games in a week moved a step closer for Bethnal Green United, as once again their match was postponed at the weekend.

The East End outfit have only played five league games this year and with 13 games still to play plus cup matches, time is running out to fulfil the fixtures before the end of April deadline.

The latest call-off occurred on Saturday at 12pm when the referee called the Greens game at Takeley off due to a waterlogged pitch, leaving manager Justin Gardner frustrated.

"We were on our way there and I knew it would be postponed," he said.

"It is frustrating because they could have called it off earlier. We already have two games a week for the rest of the campaign and as more games get postponed, that number is only going to go up and up.

"The Essex Senior League have written to the FA requesting to extend the season, so we will have to see what they say and I hope they use common sense and accept the proposal."

Gardner (pictured right) is preparing for the long trip to Witham this Saturday and the boss is wary about playing an in-form side who have not lost in the league since the end of October, picking up 30 points from a possible 36.

"It is going to be a really tough match against a team who are flying at the moment," he said.

"I won't have Marlon Campbell or Marvin Abugunde, who also has a knee problem. They will both be big losses and have played well of late.

"The transfer deadline is in a few weeks and I have a squad of 20, which I would like to build up to 25 or 26, especially if we end up playing three of four games a week, as I will have to rotate my players.
