Team take Sonali Othith title on busy day

Golden Moon were crowned Sonali Othith Master champions are a frenzied day of football, friendship and fun.

The biggest shocks of the tournament saw Mohammedan, winners of the last three Masters tournaments, and last year’s finalists Shadwell being knocked out in the group stages.

In the semi-finals Golden Moon beat Sylhet FC 1-0, while London Tigers overcame MK Galacticos by the same scoreline to take their place in the final.

A tense final saw man-of-the-tournament Ruhul Islam score a spectacular winner for Towsif Jahan’s men to take the trophy home for Golden Moon.

Islam had scored every Golden Moon goal bar one and brilliantly tricked the Tigers defence with a deft flick to leave him one on one with the keeper, who he beat with a crisp side-footed finish to send the crowd crazy.

Sonali Othith’s Faruque Mahfuz Ahmed said: “We have witnessed some tremendous football. The weather was brilliant and the atmosphere top class.

“Great credit goes to all the participants for contributing to such a showcase. Huge thanks go to my colleagues for their immense hard work in making this such a memorable day.”

Centre-back Samuel Salim was jubilant in victory, adding: “It was a tough day on every front and the standard of play and fitness for every opponent we faced has been immense.

“We feel privileged to have just participated but to win this prestigious trophy and take it home is a memory I will cherish for a very long time.”
