Essex Senior League: Haringey Boro 12 Tower Hamlets 0

Tiring Tower Hamlets were put to the sword by champions Haringey as Darrell Cox netted eight times in a rout at Coles Park.

Hamlets were playing their fourth match of the week, having followed last weekend’s 1-1 draw with Basildon with 3-0 midweek losses to Eton Manor and Hullbridge.

And they arrived late in north London, which meant kick-off was put back to 3.10pm.

The visitors were caught cold when play did get underway as Cox opened his account with only 13 seconds on the clock.

Cox doubled Haringey’s lead on 12 minutes, before Leroy Griffiths made it 3-0 five minutes later.

Hamlets were hit again on 20 minutes as Cox completed his hat-trick, with Daniel Aristidou adding number five moments later.

Cox struck his fourth and Haringey’s sixth with only 27 minutes played, but Hamlets held out until the interval without conceding again.

Haringey had to wait until just before the hour to add their seventh through Dean Fenton, before Hamlets lost their keeper to injury and with three substitutes already used were left to play the last half an hour with only 10 men.

Cox netted three more times to take Haringey into double figures, before Joshua Willer made it 11-0 in the 88th minute.

And Cox had the final say with his eighth goal of the afternoon in the final minute, which leaves him one behind Lewis Manor, of Bowers, in the scoring charts with the two sides set to meet in the league cup semi-final.

Haringey set new records for most points (103), wins (34), goals scored (129) and goal difference (plus 99), while Hamlets finished in 17th place with 35 points from their 38 matches.

Meanwhile, London Bari fell to a 3-1 defeat at runners-up Bowers to end their campaign in 15th place with 38 points.

Luca Frankis put the hosts ahead on the stroke of half time, but Akintunde Akinola got Bari back on terms a minute after the restart.

Harley Kee put Bowers back in front on 50 minutes, though, and Manor made sure with their third 16 minutes from time.

Newham had already completed their campaign and finished 13th with 43 points, despite having to play all of their matches away from their Terence McMillan Stadium base.

Clapton close their league campaign with a trip to Takeley on Thursday, but first face Barking in the semi-finals of the league cup on Tuesday.

The two clubs meet again in the final of the Gordon Brasted Memorial Trophy at Burnham’s Leslie Field next Saturday (May 2).
