Robert Green insists he is ""more than ready"" to make his full England debut against Kazakhstan on Saturday after edging ahead in the race to become Fabio Capello's new No1

Robert Green insists he is 'more than ready' to make his full England debut against Kazakhstan on Saturday after edging ahead in the race to become Fabio Capello's new No1.

Capello is without regular keeper David James for the World Cup qualifier and is expected to hand Green his first Three Lions start.

The Italian recalled former England stopper Paul Robinson and West Brom's Scott Carson to the squad, but Capello looks set to reward Hammers keeper Green for a consistent season at Upton Park.

Green, 29, has never started an England game and has made just two friendly appearances in four years since his Three Lions debut in 2005.

But the West Ham star is confident he will grasp the opportunity to prove he can be England's first-choice stopper.

He said: "It's a massive chance and I feel like I'm ready.

"I've been involved with England for the best part of five years and not had the most amount of minutes on the pitch. But with Jamo out for these two games, it's an opportunity.

"I've been involved in squads for the best part of 40-odd games. I've watched and been part of the squad in important, massive games.

"The next step is obviously to play in them and if it comes about this weekend, I feel I'm more than ready for it."

West Ham team-mate Matthew Upson is set to win his 15th England cap on Saturday following Rio Ferdinand's withdrawal with a calf injury.

But Jack Collison has missed out on the chance to make his full Wales bow after aggravating a knee injury.

The Hammers midfielder was expected to feature in Saturday's World Cup qualifier in Azerbaijan, but was declared unfit to travel to Baku after injuring his knee in last week's friendly against Estonia.
