Essex Senior League: Tower Hamlets 1 Burnham Ramblers 1

Tower Hamlets stopped their run of six consecutive defeats by drawing at home to Burnham Ramblers last night in the Essex Senior League.

Ade Abayomi’s men last picked up a point in the division back on February 1 when Hullbridge Sports visited Mile End Stadium and it finished 1-1.

Since then the Hamlets youngster has lost to the likes of local rivals Sporting Bengal United and suffered heavy defeats to title challengers Barking and FC Romania.

A catalyst for those reverses was conceding in the opening 45, but the hosts managed to defend well throughout the first half.

Both them and Ramblers lacked quality, however, and it finished goalless at the break with neither able to create many opportunities.

It was the visitors that started the second period strongly, although Deevorn Miller forced the away goalkeeper to tip his effort over the bar.

Abayomi introduced Inesh Sumithran and King Amieye to help boost their push for the opener and the latter made an impact.

In the 69th minute the Ramblers custodian made another fine save, but Amieye was on hand to poke in the rebound and put Hamlets one up.

But the east Londoners couldn’t hold on and take all three points as Lee Pleasance volleyed past Lloyd Prezmecky White with 10 minutes remaining.

And that was how it finished at Mile End as Abayomi’s men were left to reflect what might have been.

They are back in action tomorrow (Wednesday) when they visit Greenhouse Sports after moving up to 16th in the table.

Tower Hamlets: Prezmecky-White, Abalo, Cedras, McClean, Olanipekun, Traore, Ali, Miller, Ikenwe, Bello (Sumithran 54), Teberen (Amieye 61).

Unused substitutes: Ogunoile, Biscoe, Mike-Gaylor.
