Tower Hamlets WFC picked up their first points of the season as Hannah Dalgleish scored twice to inspire a brave comeback at Millwall Park

Tower Hamlets WFC picked up their first points of the season as Hannah Dalgleish scored twice to inspire a brave comeback at Millwall Park on Sunday.

Dalgliesh struck either side of half-time to rescue a point and prevent a second straight defeat at the club's new home ground after Manford Way had surged into a two-goal lead.

Despite enjoying a successful pre-season, a series of injuries had seen the Cows slip to back-to-back losses in their opening two matches of the London & South East Division One season.

Those injury concerns increased in the first 15 minutes on Sunday as captain Lucy Mills was forced off with a thigh injury and Manford Way took advantage by breaking the deadlock with a 30-yard free-kick that looped into the net.

Midfield duo Kate Warner and Helen Goodacre managed to give Tower Hamlets a foothold in the game but despite some inviting crosses by new signing Clare Speed, the Cows were unable to capitalise and Manford Way doubled their lead before half-time.

Yet the goal sparked a reaction from the home side and the dangerous Dalgleish gave her side a lifeline, latching on to a through-ball from Sabrina Samuel and firing home minutes before the break.

The Cows proceeded to dominate after the break with Speed causing more problems for the Manford defence, but it was Marta Choruzy who provided the crucial cross from which Dalgliesh scored the vital equaliser.

The clash marked the final match in Desmond Moreira's spell in charge of Tower Hamlets after the coach opted to join a club closer to his North London home.
