The east Londoners’ enjoyed a stunning 2017/18 campaign and will finish it with a match against a Bangladesh touring side

Sporting Bengal United manager Imrul Gazi is honoured the club will be hosting a Bangladesh touring side named Dhaka Akadash RC on Wednesday night and feels it is the perfect way to conclude a memorable 2017/18 season.

The Mile End Stadium club will take on the professional side from Bangladesh at the Terence McMillan Stadium in a 6.30pm kick-off.

Gazi is hoping two of his players in particular can impress, he said: “It’s a bit of exhibition match I guess and it came from nowhere because I was in holiday mode, but it’s a pleasant surprise.

“The task now is to get a decent team out and I’m trying to get all of the lads who finished the season so well.

“At the moment it looks like I should have most available with only a couple unavailable and the club and chairman (Aroz Miah) are really excited about the opportunity.

“It’s a great occasion for the community and of course it’s just a shame they have decided to come during Ramadan, but it’s an opportunity for the players of Bangladeshi decent to showcase their talent.

“The likes of Ashaan Siddik and Rokib Choudhury both had exceptional seasons and have been instrumental for us. The touring team I am led to believe will consist of up to six or seven Bangladesh national team players, so I’m keen to see how they perform.

“They are here for 10 days and during that time they will play three games against Panjab United, ourselves and Cardiff Dragons, so it’s an honour for us at Sporting to have this opportunity.”

It will finish off an outstanding campaign for Bengal after they secured a 10th place spot – ahead of local rivals Tower Hamlets by one place and a single point.

Gazi’s team ended with 50 points – their best-ever total in the Essex Senior League and the form they produced in April saw the east Londoners’ boss claim the manager of the month award.

Bengal were unbeaten in their last five matches, winning four of them, and it capped a superb campaign for the Mile End Stadium club.

“It was an unbelievable finish to the season – a record-breaking one in fact,” said a proud Gazi.

“The players, staff and myself are over the moon with it and what better way to conclude the campaign than with an international.”

Entry is free to Wednesday’s match at the Terence McMillan Stadium and everyone is welcome to attend.
