East Londoners travelled over 80 miles on Tuesday to Suffolk, but the trip home was all the more sweeter after a 2-0 success

Sporting Bengal United manager Imrul Gazi was delighted with his team after their excellent victory at Ipswich Wanderers on Tuesday.

The two clubs played out a goalless draw in the FA Cup extra-preliminary round on Sunday at Wadham Lodge’s Stadium in Walthamstow.

It was a quick turnaround for the replay and the east Londoners delivered a brilliant display to win 2-0.

Chris Wright and Codey Cameron were on target for Bengal as they booked a spot in the next round where they will host Essex Senior League rivals Clapton on August 20.

“Ipswich were much improved from Sunday and we really had to dig in, but each person played their hearts out,” said Gazi.

“My goalkeeper and back four were immense and in Freddy Tandon, I have found a real leader and rightly so he’s my captain.

“It is hard to single out any player out from Tuesday night, but I need to give a special mention to Dwayne Esprit in goal and midfield wizard Ashaan Siddik - both were brilliant.”

Bengal’s result earned them various praise on social media with many predicting the hosts would progress.

Although Gazi was thrilled with the victory, he knows his team remain a work in progress with the season under two weeks old.

He also lauded the work of fitness coach Aftar Ali, adding: “We are work in progress and this result will only help the players confidence.

“I trust and believe in their ability. They now need to start doing the same. Ipswich were a good organised team and FA Vase quarter-finalists last year.

“We played four under-20s and the starting XI didn’t include one Sporting Bengal player from last season.

“The plaudits must also go to my fitness coach Aftar Ali. He has been really working our lads hard during the summer.”
