Tower Hamlets player-coach discusses injury scare for Sean Bazel and recent form

Tower Hamlets had a fright last weekend when goalkeeper Sean Bazel was badly injured during their Essex Senior League clash with Eton Manor.

The encounter at Mile End Stadium was stopped after 71 minutes when Bazel received an injury and an ambulance was required to treat the home keeper.

The scoreline was 1-1 at the time and it was decided the match would be abandoned – with Bazel unable to continue.

Fortunately it was later confirmed that the stopper had suffered a bruised spine and not anything more serious.

Player-coach Ajay Ashnike confirmed that Bazel was okay and expects him to return in two or three weeks.

Ashnike said: “Yes he is all right now. I spoke to him and he’s feeling much better.

“When I came back to the club I was really happy to have Sean here, because he is a really good keeper and we want him back as soon as possible. Hopefully it will only be two or three weeks.

“It was a big scare at first, but luckily it was all right in the end.”

Ashnike returned to the club shortly after their suspension was lifted by the league.

He is working alongside Godfrey Obebo to ensure Tower Hamlets aren’t relegated this season.

They are set to host FC Romania this weekend and a tough test is expected, but they are confident going into the match.

“It will be a physical battle and we went there earlier in the season and won 2-1,” added Ashnike.

“They will come here for revenge, but they aren’t in good form and in the last few games we have been a lot better.”

Following that match Tower Hamlets host Barking on Wednesday (March 25).

And Ashnike was full of praise for the title hopefuls.

“Barking are a very good team and one of the best we have played this season,” he added.

“We played them recently and lost, but I feel like we are a better team now compared to a couple of weeks ago, so we will see what happens in that match.”

Basement boys Sporting Bengal United continue to struggle, though, as they conceded 12 goals in a week in defeats at Takeley and Southend Manor.

Bengal lost 6-2 on Saturday to Takeley, despite goals from John Valencia and Nana Adjei.

And Abdi Samad scored on Tuesday against Manor, but they fell to a 6-1 defeat. Bengal travel to Stansted this weekend.
