REIGNING champions Lapton have opened a 10-point gap at the top of the Premier Division as the Hackney and Leyton League

leaders took advantage of major rivals Clapton Rangers being bogged down in cup-ties.

While title rivals Clapton saw their London Sunday Intermediate Cup tie postponed by a waterlogged pitch on Sunday, Lapton stretched their lead with a 4-2 win over Three Compasses.

Jason Elliott, Ade Wale, Dean Phillips and Daniel Stephenson were all on target for Lapton, while Daniel Crockett and Joe Benjamin replied for Compasses.

Justin Weatherman scored twice as improving Bancroft climbed to fourth in the table with a 5-1 win over St George's. Kadir Jama, Dominic Asador and Nathan Mulgrave also scored for the Bethnal Green side.

Army and Navy slipped to a first defeat of the season in Division One following a shock 4-2 loss against Wounded Knee. Army had taken an early lead through Jamie McDonald's penalty but Andy Matyo hit a brace for Knee, who added further goals through Darrell Lynch and Tom Slaymaker.

Real Romania took advantage of the slip-up to increase their lead at the top of the division with a 5-1 win over bottom side Midfield, while Gascoyne and London Aprilia shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw.

Mile End staged a remarkable comeback to secure a 3-2 win over FC Metwin. Trailing by two goals with just 15 minutes left, a stunning revival saw Grant Smith, James Morris and Aaron Woodward hit the target as Mile End snatched an improbable victory.

In the opening round of the Jack Morgan Cup, last season's finalists FC Lockers crashed out at the first hurdle after a 4-1 defeat by Homerton Rangers, while Big Kahuna came through a penalty shoot-out to win 5-4 and end AC Islington's hopes of an upset.
