Hornchurch and Tower Hamlets progress
The local clubs had mixed fortunes in the FA Youth Cup this week with two progressing but three more exiting the competition at the first qualifying round stage.
Hornchurch were due to face Heybridge Swifts but Urchins opponents were forced to withdraw and therefore earned a walk-over, whilst Tower Hamlets defeated Aveley 5-1 at the Mile End Stadium to progress through to the next round.
Barking made the trip to Hertfordshire to face Codicote but were beaten 3-1, and Clapton were stuffed 6-0 at home by Brentwood Town.
Redbridge’s tie with Concord Rangers went to penalties, after it ended 1-1 after extra time, but they couldn’t hold their nerve from the spot and went out following a 5-4 loss on spot-kicks.

Hornchurch face Waltham Abbey in the second qualifying round, with that tie taking place on the week commencing October 6 and Tower Hamlets can gain some revenge for local rivals Clapton as they visit Brentwood in the next phase of the competition.
