Bethnal Green United manager Justin Gardner was 'over the moon' with his side despite watching them lose their first game since early September.

It was a mixed week for the Greens who, the Wednesday before beat rivals London APSA 2-1, before losing to top of the table Burnham 2-0 on Saturday.

United dominated from the outset, but a combination of bad luck and poor finishing put pay to their chances of taking a point from the encounter.

"We were all over them, but it was just a game which we could not score in," Gardner said.

"We hit the post and had a goal ruled out, but fair play to Burnham, they got their tactics right and frustrated us."

As well as the opposition Gardner was keen to praise his own men, who he felt did everything he asked of them, bar putting the ball in the back of the net.

"I was over the moon with the performance if I am being honest," he said.

"We played two very well and I can only have two complaints; We allowed them too much room for their first goal and we did not take our chances.

"They had two shots on goal and their goalkeeper was named man-of-the-match and that tells you a lot about how the game went."

It was a different story the Wednesday before when despite an off-key performance, Greens had just enough to beat East End rivals London APSA.

Danny Sabaroche was the star of the show. Minutes after coming on got won a penalty before getting on the end of a Marlon Campbell through ball and belting home when one-on-one with the APSA goalkeeper.

"APSA were awesome and we nicked the result off of them," admitted Gardner, who was also keen to praise the impact of his super-sub.

"They had more hunger and fight then we did on the night and I think that on the night we only won because we had that bit more extra quality than they did.

"I brought on Danny and he changed the game for us. He was only on the field for the last 30 minutes, but his performance in that time was good enough to be named man-of-the match.
