Scott Parker relieved West Ham have survived the drop

West Ham's hero Scott Parker was relieved after his winning goal against Wigan on Saturday ensured his side's Premier League survival.

The Hammers of The Year elect cracked home a sublime shot from 25-yards to seal a 3-2 win and with Burnley's fate sealed and Hull needing a 23-goal turnaround, it's safe to say the east London side will be in the top flight next season.

It has been a disappointing campaign for West Ham and the team have underperformed, but the comfort from the weekend win was the main focus last Saturday night.

"It's a massive relief, obviously we have been playing under a lot of tension and stress over the last few months because we are where we are in the league.

"We have seen games where we have not picked up points and it has been stressful and it's not been ideal, but today is a massive relief.

"We've got the points, but like everything we have to look at Fulham and try and get a result there as well.

"The three points were crucial. Obviously we have Fulham and Manchester City to play, we need to go into them games and pick up a couple more results and hopefully we can do that."

With Parker back in the centre of the middle the chances of that occurring are increased dramatically and the former Chelsea man was again named man of the match on Saturday after a typical workmanlike performance.

And although praise for how he has played this season has been in plenty of supply, the 29-year-old was keen that the whole squad received credit for their survival.

"Obviously I've had two games out, so I was buzzing to try and get back into the swing of things," he said.

"I think I said in a lot of interviews the accolation will probably go to me and I will probably get the headlines because I scored the winning goal, but everyone down to Greeny (Robert Green), who pulled off a save which kept us in the game to everyone.

"And you can say that throughout the season and everyone deserves massive credit for today's result."

It is however hard to ignore Parker's contribution for the whole campaign and many are calling for his inclusion in Fabio Capello's England squad.

The midfielder though is staying grounded and does not believe we will make the final 23-man squad.

"I've been asked the question many a time this year and I've said on record I think if I had a chance to go to go South Africa I think I would have probably been called into the squad," he said.

"I've not been called into a squad once so it is against me a bit,"

"All I can is play well for West Ham and if I can help the team produce results and produce maybe it might be good enough.

"I can't influence it, its not frustration its just part and pastel. I've been so focused on West Ham. How we are doing and the situation we have been in, which has been my focus.

"When you get rewarded with international call-ups it's great, and if it happens I'll be ready to go. I think it won't though.
