Tower Hamlets hit back for a point

Enfield 3 Sporting Bengal 1

Sporting Bengal suffered a third successive loss to remain next to bottom of the Essex Senior League table.

Both sides saw early chances fly over the crossbar, before Jayden Hocking-Rising put the hosts ahead in the 10th minute, firing home from a Lee Pleasance cross.

And Hocking-Rising made it 2-0 just three minutes later as he ran on to a through ball from James Briggs and find the net.

Superb defending by Jordan Meikle denied Sporting Bengal a reply midway through the first half, before Chris Lockwood curled home a brilliant third for Enfield.

But after Joe Pattison saw his shot bend just over the bar, the visitors hit back when Bobby Redwood slotted home for Imrul Gazi’s men.

Some last-gasp defending by Essimi Cephas denied Sporting a second, but Enfield had another effort ruled out by a linesman’s flag.

Hocking-Rising had chances to complete his hat-trick in the second half, while Sporting Bengal fired a great chance over with 17 minutes remaining.

Enfield were awarded a penalty in the last minute when Drew was fouled, but Hocking-Rising saw his spot-kick saved and missed out on a treble.

Sporting Bengal return to action next Saturday when they welcome Ilford to Mile End Stadium.

Sporting Bengal: Bernard, Cameron, Choudhury, Gregory, Kobia, Redwood, Siddik, Tandon, Teladjati, Thwala, Wright. Subs: Ahmed, Garner-Weekes, Samad.

Tower Hamlets 1 Waltham Forest 1

Tower Hamlets earned a share of the spoils against Forest at Mile End Stadium after coming from behind.

Jeff Shepherd put Forest in front two minutes before half time, but Sergio Sheymz hit back to level on 70 minutes as Hamlets recorded a second successive draw.

Ade Abayomi’s men travel to Basildon United for their next challenge on Tuesday.
