Sporting Bengal 0 Southend Manor 4; Hullbridge 3 Tower Hamlets 0

Sporting Bengal’s Essex Senior League slump shows no sign of coming to an end just yet, after suffering a sixth loss in seven outings against Southend Manor.

And Mile End Stadium co-tenants Tower Hamlets suffered once again on their travels as they slumped to their seventh successive defeat away at Hullbridge.

Bottom club Bengal fell behind when Callum Jex beat three defenders and fired home and they saw Manor’s Robbie Norris win a penalty before the break, only for Callum Ibe to see his spot-kick saved.

The reprieve for Imrul Gazi’s men was brief as they conceded a second goal early in the second half when Michael Hopkins headed home from Aundre Spencer’s deep cross.

And the home side were then reduced to 10 men, before Norris made it 3-0 just past the hour mark.

Manor completed their tally in stoppage time when Ibe’s shot was saved and Spencer tapped in from close range.

Sporting will turn their attentions to the league cup in midweek when they face the daunting trip to leaders Barking on Tuesday.

Hamlets fell behind after 18 minutes at Lower Road when Hullbridge player-manager Rob Hodgson converted Jimmy Cox’s pass.

The home side doubled their lead four minutes before half time when Cox saw a shot hit a defender’s arm and he converted from the penalty spot.

Hamlets held out until stoppage time before conceding a third goal, when Aaron Hunwicks saw a corner curl inside the far post, and Ade Abayomi’s men now face a break until they host West Essex on Monday, December 12.
