Sporting Bengal United manager Imrul Gazi is keen to pick up a striker after enduring a week of mixed results.

The Mile End-based club picked up their first victory of 2018 when they beat Waltham Forest 4-1 on Wednesday but they were soon brought back down to earth with a 3-2 defeat to Southend Manor on Saturday.

“I’m looking for a striker right now,” Gazi admitted.

“We’ve been playing without a natural striker so I’m looking at four or five players in a friendly and hoping to find someone in the next ten days before out next game.”

Gazi admits it was a mixture of emotions but he was pleased to get three points and play Forest on Ryan Maxwell’s first game in charge.

“It was a mixed week but we knew it was always going to be two tough games,” he said.

“Waltham Forest had just brought in Ryan Maxwell as manager and he has brought in a lot of new players and a lot of experience so I was pleased to get them early as they’re only going to keep getting better.

“I would have taken the three points out of the two games beforehand.”

He still feels silly mistakes are costing his men and cost them dearly against Southend on Saturday.

“Saturday we had a short bench with only three substitutes but again it was mistakes that cost us.

“Before they scored we had two or three opportunities to score and we just couldn’t hit the back of the net.

“That’s one of our big problems right now not having a natural striker having to play wingers up front.”

Gazi believes his men must now step-up as they find themselves in a relegation battle with ten games left to play.

“It’s a relegation fight between 12 or 13 of us as four teams go down this season.

“We’ve played a couple more than most of the teams around us so we will be hoping results go our way.

“We’ve got ten days off before we play Clapton now, so it gives us time to regroup.”
